Ukraine will learn new gas prices by April – Kyiv accuses Russia in advance
The new gas price for Ukrainian consumers will become known in April 2022. It depends on Russia, because Naftogaz, despite all efforts to increase energy efficiency, will still have to import “blue fuel”.
The head of the board of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine, Yuriy Vitrenko, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The new annual price under the annual contract regarding gas supplies to the population should be formed approximately in April, because new prices under this contract should go into effect in May. We will see what the annual price level will be then, because now it is quite difficult to predict what the price will be. This depends on the actions of Russia, which artificially limits gas supplies to the European market,” Vitrenko said.
He assured that everything would be done to increase the level of energy efficiency in the industry, but admitted that gas would still have to be imported.
“Ukraine needs to increase the level of energy efficiency, and we, for our part, will also do this so that in the next heating season, for example, the Teplokommunenergo enterprises switch as much as possible from natural gas to bioenergy, to biomass, to biogas. They modernized their networks so that there were fewer losses, they modernized their boilers so that they could run more efficiently even on natural gas, where it remains. This is very important, it will allow us to import less gas even this summer. We will still have to import gas this summer; this will require significant financial resources,” explained the head of the board.
