"Inflation is accelerating. And I am sure that this Friday the Central Bank will decide to raise the rate to 23%. I think that Putin will still allow him to do this, because he sees that the population is not rioting or anything like that. His explanations that the enemies are to blame for everything still work," Kasyanov said.

Such a categorical statement is not connected with the former prime minister's inside information, but with reading Russian media. The majority of analysts from large Russian banks and investment companies surveyed by RBC predict an increase in the rate. And four admit that the Central Bank may act more harshly and raise the indicator in December to 25% per annum.

The Central Bank itself explains the increase in the key rate by the fight against inflation, but since October Rosstat has stopped publishing data on the volume of retail sales of individual goods and services, on the basis of which inflation is calculated.

State Duma deputy from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Nikolai Arefyev believes that the head of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina understands that inflation statistics are falsified and raises the key rate based on real inflation, and not the one reported by Rosstat

“Because if we show it, then we need to raise salaries in the public sector, pensions, but we don’t want to give the money away,” Arefyev said.

Economist Nikita Krichevsky believes that the increase in the key rate is in no way connected with inflation.

"Both the Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance are ignoring inflation in this case, although its surge is inevitable. Inflation (like the rate), apparently, is a scam designed to distract attention from the real plan (transformation, concentration, consolidation, purification, fishing out hidden reserves), where the rate is not even a method, but an instrument," Krichevsky wrote in his Telegram channel.
