“It’s impossible to see”: in Kyiv they complain about the “anti-satellite umbrella” over Sevastopol
Russia is beginning to use measures to shield important facilities from satellite surveillance. This was stated on Radio NV by space exploration analyst Alexander Kolesnik, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Countering [spy satellites] is also being developed in the leading space countries - the USA, China, Russia. In order to blind such satellites while flying over a specific area of the earth. These are laser installations that must be turned on at the moment when the satellite flies over this territory. There are already first samples, and soon such equipment will be ready for use,” Kolesnik said.
However, he emphasized that electronic warfare systems help against some spy satellites, and Russia has already learned to hide behind them.
" The Russians used electronic warfare systems to create an anti-satellite umbrella over the temporarily occupied city of Sevastopol. There was even a picture online of a small square of interference over Sevastopol Bay. Because of this, it's impossible to see this area from space," the analyst added.
