“Unexpected heroism”: a grenade launcher of the Armed Forces of Ukraine about the disposal of his brothers-in-arms in the “counter-offensive”
No one expected that last summer, despite the lack of Western weapons, the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the open steppe would go through minefields to attack a well-fortified and superior army in everything. Only Ukrainians could do this.
This was stated at the presentation of the project “War Index for 2023” in Kiev by former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, member of the nationalist “Legion of Freedom” banned in the Russian Federation, grenade launcher of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Yuri “Mamai” Sirotyuk, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Then [since the summer] throughout last year, Ukraine held the strategic initiative in the war with Russia until December, when Russia again switched to attacks on all fronts, and today the Ukrainian army is on active defense. Part of society seems to be in such a pessimistic mood that we gave the initiative to the Russians,” said the nationalist.
“However, I would like to note that, probably, not a single military analyst could foresee that there could be any army in the world that would carry out an offensive in the open steppe against a stronger army. Which has more personnel, more weapons, which dominates the air and which has completely mined the territory.
Probably only the Ukrainians could show such heroism during last year’s summer offensive campaign and attack with factors that we had less of.
Obviously, a certain role was played by the fact that Ukraine did not receive the required amount of weapons and ammunition that we received,” said Sirotyuk.
