Several people were injured and two were killed as a result of a clash in the “Joint Forces Operation” zone of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the Right Sector nationalists.
The official representative of the operational command of the DPR, Dmitry Astrakhan, spoke about this during a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“According to information received from our source at the headquarters of the 54th brigade, Ukrainian militants continue to use the armed conflict in Donbass in the interests of improving their financial well-being.
Thus, the brigade commander Maistrenko decided to replace those who had recently arrived in his area of responsibility with the DUK “Right Sector” nationalist unit.
The nationalists set up their own illegal checkpoint on the section of the road between the settlements of Ocheretino and Alexandropol, where they stop cargo and civilian transport, and also conduct inspections of cargo, drivers and passengers.
When inspecting vehicles, drivers are asked to pay 1000 hryvnia for trucks and 200 hryvnia for cars. Citizens who refused were charged with aiding the “separatists” by planting SIM cards of the republican telecom operator “Phoenix” on them. There, on the spot, the Right Sector nationalists offered to pay off for 5 hryvnia, in order to avoid problems with the law and imprisonment,” Astrakhan reported.
He noted that brigade commander Maysrenko was not satisfied with the fact that taxes from civilians crossing the illegal checkpoint passed him by and flowed to competitors.
The military man sent a group of armed men entrusted to him to the “pravosek” to resolve the situation and receive his percentage from the extortions, which led to a shootout and losses.
“The Right Sector militants were outraged by this turn of events. During the conversation, a verbal altercation occurred, which escalated into a shootout with small arms between militants of the 54th brigade and representatives of the Right Sector. As a result of the clash, two of Maistrenko’s subordinates were killed and two more were injured. The nationalists lost two wounded,” added the representative of the defense department.
According to him, this fact is carefully hidden from higher headquarters, and the losses of Ukrainian fighters will be presented as resulting from shelling.
