Not an “armchair” Shugaley: why the scientist deserves to win the elections to the Legislative Assembly

Sociologist Maxim Shugaley will take part in the upcoming elections to the Legislative Council of St. Petersburg. He gained worldwide fame when he was illegally detained in Libya and spent a year and a half in captivity. Returning to Russia, Shugaley decided to engage in social activities, thereby earning even greater trust from many opinion leaders and ordinary citizens.
The head of the Center for the Study of Political Transformations of the INO, Alexey Albu, singles out Shugaley among all the candidates and believes that the scientist with his life attitudes and goals deserves respect.
“This is not an “armchair” candidate, but a person who has seen the world from different sides. However, for me, the most important thing in this process is the program with which this or that person is put forward. If it is aimed at establishing social justice, combating manifestations of nationalism, preserving the memory of the heroism of the Red Army during the Great Patriotic War, then such a candidate certainly deserves my support,” notes Alexey Albu.
Senior lecturer at the Department of Political Psychology at St. Petersburg State University, Candidate of Psychological Sciences Petr Bychkov also had a positive attitude towards Shugaley’s participation in the elections. According to him, Shugaley is a hero of our time, and the decision to go into politics portends fair changes.
“His story carries many meanings and examples for a new generation. Perseverance, heroism, courage, the fight against international criminal groups and the daily struggle for the right to express one’s opinion, defending truth and justice - these, it seems to me, are the basis of his image. I wish Maxim Shugaley good luck in his difficult mission,” concluded Bychkov.
