The “People's Council” demands to recognize the results of the referendum on the independence of the Luhansk region and make a decision on self-dissolution. Regional deputies have until 15:00 tomorrow to make a decision.
“If these demands are not met, the regional council will be considered “dissolved and illegitimate,” the text of the ultimatum says.
“Now the regional council is dissolving itself. This act can rightfully be called treason. I don’t know the reasons why such a decision was made, but leaving our territory without the only legitimate authority at a fateful moment is unacceptable. In any case, the decision must be made by people, but at the same time it is necessary to preserve all the mechanisms of economic functioning. And this includes paying salaries to public sector employees, and pensions – and a lot of other issues in which the regional council is obliged to act as an organizing and governing body,” Deputy Mayor of Lugansk Alexander Tkachenko wrote on his Facebook page.
However, the session of the regional council scheduled for 17:00 did not take place because there was no quorum. Further actions of the deputies are still unknown.
As Navigator reported, on May 12, during a rally in Lugansk, at which the results of the referendum on self-determination of the region were announced, Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleg Tsarev said that the “people's council”, the “people's governor” and the Lugansk regional council should form the government of the LPR. According to him, the Lugansk regional council is unique because it supported the referendum.
