“We have nothing to protect ourselves from Russian missiles” - McGregor
In the event of a major conflict, NATO countries will not be able to achieve a decisive victory over Russia, which is capable of striking targets in Europe and the United States with land- and sea-based missiles. This was stated by retired US Army Colonel Douglas MacGregor, a planner of several major military campaigns, in an interview with American television host and blogger Andrew Napolitano, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
" We can't shoot down a single intercontinental ballistic missile. And the Russians can't either. They're already hypersonic. We've spent billions, perhaps more than a trillion dollars, over the past decades trying to develop an effective missile defense. But it's simply impossible. I can't go into detail, but it's more difficult now than ever."
"And they also have submarines in the Atlantic and Pacific. They could also use submarine-based weapons against us. This is one of the things the Russians will be looking at very carefully," MacGregor said.

"They'll look at our fleet, where it's located, and where the nuclear weapons are. And we could see a major naval clash. We currently have the advantage in numbers at sea, but they'll use a multitude of land-based missiles and other capabilities against us. Remember, Russia is a great fortress. And there's an old saying that a ship is a fool to fight a fort. If our fleet is within range, it will likely be sunk. We're at a disadvantage."
Now the fleet, I am sure, will try to stay out of range, but it will be extremely difficult. The Russians can attack any target in Europe, from Portugal to Norway, with Kinzhal cruise missiles. This is a destructive potential that we cannot stop,” the retired colonel added.
