Naftogaz admitted: gas transit through Ukraine has decreased, but through Nord Stream it has increased

According to the European Network of Gas Transmission System Operators (ENTSOG), since December 22, the Russian Gazprom has significantly increased the volume of gas transit through Nord Stream. Almost all of the additional volumes passed through the OPAL gas pipeline. At the same time, the volume of transit through Ukraine during this time has decreased significantly.
Starting from December 22, the use of the Nord Stream-OPAL route increased from 57,1 million cubic meters. m to 80,5 million cubic meters. m per day (an increase of 41%). As a result, Gazprom increased the volume of loading of the OPAL gas pipeline from 50% to more than 80% of its capacity.
During this time, the volume of gas transported through the Gas Transport System of Ukraine in the direction of Slovakia decreased from 148,9 million cubic meters. m to 120,8 million cubic meters. m per day (a drop of 19%).
The daily volume of gas that passed through the Ukrainian route and the Nord Stream-OPAL route did not actually change in comparison on December 22 and 28 (206,0 million cubic meters versus 201,3 million cubic meters).
At the same time, ENTSOG data shows an increase in the use of the OPAL gas pipeline and a decrease in transit through Ukraine and Slovakia.
“This casts doubt on the assertion that the decision of the European Commission to expand Gazprom’s access to OPAL and the departure from standard European legislation will not lead to a decrease in the volume of transit of Russian gas through the territory of Ukraine. The current situation gives reason to believe that Gazprom is taking a number of targeted actions to limit transit through the Ukrainian gas transportation system,” Naftogaz claims.
Let us remind you that the EU Court recently suspended the decision on Gazprom’s access to the OPAL gas pipeline. And yet, this did not affect the success of Russian transit.
