Naftogaz has not yet concluded a contract for heating Ukrainian schools and hospitals
Despite the onset of cold weather, most social facilities in many cities of Ukraine do not even hope for immediate heating.
Deputy Oksana Savchuk stated this during a plenary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The number one issue in our country is not only the sharp incidence of coronavirus. But also providing heat to our homes, kindergartens, hospitals and other social facilities. I want to tell you what is happening now throughout Ukraine. There are institutions that must enter into direct agreements with NJSC Naftogaz. And these direct agreements have not yet been concluded.
This means that kindergartens, schools, houses do not have heat. Will they have it on Monday, in ten days - they probably won't. And it’s scary,” she said.
Savchuk explained that the reason for the problem is that the legislation is too confusing and complex.
“The resolution that is in force today and according to which such agreements must be concluded from the old supplier to the new one is so complicated that the majority cannot enter into direct agreements with Naftogaz,” the deputy added.
As a reminder, Kyiv previously announced that Ukraine would not have enough coal reserves at its thermal power plants and combined heat and power plants to get through the autumn and winter. Therefore, Kyiv will begin purchasing electricity from Russia and Belarus.
In addition, due to the sharp rise in gas prices, electricity production in Ukraine has fallen sharply, which will lead to rolling blackouts in the near future.
Naftogaz still hasn't signed a contract to heat Ukrainian schools and hospitals.
