In Ukraine, the outflow of doctors from the profession is increasing due to miserable salaries
Due to low salaries, the outflow of specialists working in the healthcare sector in Ukraine is increasing.
This was announced at a press conference in Kyiv by Viktor Serdyuk, President of the All-Ukrainian Council for the Protection of Patients' Rights and Safety, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The outflow of doctors is intensifying, and this, first of all, is connected with income, with salaries, with the ability to survive on this meager salary. You can't survive on this meager salary. Doctors are pushed to negotiate with the patient for a fee and at the same time they are told that they are corrupt officials.
If you take my 1991 medical school graduate, at least a third are no longer working. They are in Ukraine, they have not left. About 10-15 people left. The rest simply do not engage in this thankless work called medicine.
I'm talking about internal outflow, it has two parts. The first is that people simply do not practice medicine, the second is people who retire. Our average age of medical workers who care for tuberculosis patients is, for example, 60 years. That is, they are no longer there. There is no one to deal with tuberculosis,” said Viktor Serdyuk.
He also said that the shortage of specialists in certain areas is increasing in the regions. Thus, in the Kherson region three years ago there was a shortage of 40% of pediatricians; in the Chernigov region there is one resuscitator and anesthesiologist per 2-3 districts.
