While the West provided Ukraine with the weapons that the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Valery Zaluzhny asked for a year ago, six months passed, the Russian military dug in, created defensive lines and were ready to meet the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Oleksiy Melnyk, head of foreign policy and international security programs at the Razumkov Center, announced this on Radio NV, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Six months passed until decisions were finally approved and bureaucratic and technical obstacles were overcome. At the moment when this request was at least partially satisfied, time was lost - Russia had already built defense structures and prepared to meet it,” the expert said.
“It’s the same now - what is mentioned in the commander-in-chief’s article is the need for today and, perhaps, for the near future. I have a feeling that if this story continues for six months again, then at that moment neither the first package nor the second will be enough, even if it is replenished.
Also, if we are talking about the F-16, it is still an extremely powerful capability. But Russia is not sitting still; Russia will also prepare. Therefore, you always need to think for the future and at least try to calculate the enemy’s steps or counteraction in the future,” Melnik said.
