Two former Crimean deputies will be tried for treason in Ukraine
The Ukrainian prosecutor's office of the non-existent "Autonomous Republic of Crimea" has filed indictments against two former deputies of the Supreme Council of Crimea, who are suspected of treason, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
This was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian prosecutor’s office of the non-existent “AR Crimea”.
“The prosecutor's office of the autonomy, based on the results of a special preliminary investigation, sent to the court indictments against two former deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, who are accused of committing a criminal offense under Part 1 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason), the message says.
According to investigators, “in March 2014, these deputies contributed to the occupation of the peninsula. In particular, with their direct participation, a number of resolutions were illegally adopted, as a result of which the illegitimate state entity “Republic of Crimea” was created.
The defendants face 12 to 15 years in prison.
The message does not indicate whether the accused were arrested by the Ukrainian special services or live in the territory of Crimea beyond the reach of the Ukrainian Themis.
