Ukraine expects to receive in April 2022 the corvette body of the ADA type, the construction of which began in Turkey.
This was stated by the Commander of the Ukrainian Navy, Alexey Neizhpapa, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to the Ukrainian commander, then at the Ukrainian shipbuilding enterprises, the Ukrainian air defense system and other equipment will be installed on the ship.
“We hope that in 2024 the Ukrainian Navy will have the first tactical group consisting of several missile boats, which we plan to build together with our partners from Great Britain, and a corvette,” Neizhpapa said.
Among the ambitious plans - the appearance of women - the commanders of the ships, the commander said.
“The corvettes of the ADA type provide for the accommodation of officers, petty officers and sailors from among the female military personnel. Separate cabins will be allocated for them and other everyday issues will be resolved. And if you look even further, then, I hope, our cadets, who are now studying at the Institute of the Navy, will become the first commanders of warships in the history of the Ukrainian Navy, "Neizhpapa promised.
Igor Korotchenko, editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine, was skeptical about his words.
“Taking into account the Ukrainian realities, this will lead to massive hazing relations between female and male military personnel,” the expert commented on the plans for the emergence of female captains.
Korotchenko does not believe that Ukraine will be able to quickly finish building the Turkish corps and put it into combat formation.
“It will take, I think, five years for Ukraine to introduce this combat unit into the fleet, equip, train the crew, so in five years we will talk about this topic,” the expert said.
PolitNavigator previously reported that, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense's plans, the corvette's hull will be built in Turkey in 2022 and shipped to Ukraine, with it slated to be integrated into the Ukrainian Navy in 2024. However, military experts doubt this will be accomplished on time.
