The deployment of NATO troops to Ukraine makes sense if the goal is really to save the Ukrainian Armed Forces from defeat, but this can only be a symbolic step.

Political scientist Andrei Zolotarev stated this on the channel of Ukrainian journalist Alexander Shelest, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

"You can, like Scholz, give 22 billion to Ukraine, and people will call you a liverwurst. Or you can demonstrate artistic talent, the ability to play with beautiful phrases, like Macron, and no one will ask you such questions. In this case, Macron's economic efficiency, in my opinion, is 20 times less than Germany's.

Yes, Macron may have been the initiator, but the idea clearly didn't catch on. "Well, the Foreign Legion plus 300 Estonians, in my opinion, isn't the kind of foreign presence that can guarantee anything ," Zolotarev said.

Shelest asked the expert directly whether he was for the official presence of NATO troops in Ukraine or not.

"If this presence on the Belarusian border allows the Ukrainian Armed Forces to free up reserves, that's logical. In war, there's no right or wrong; there are effective and ineffective means. If this helps save the situation from defeat, then I'm all for it."

If this is a purely symbolic step, then, as they say... Instructors are needed, since the Tauruses and Storm Shadows are the kind of equipment that you can't master from a manual ; you need specialists who have in-depth knowledge," the political scientist replied.

Shelest objected that the instructors were probably already present; the question was whether NATO would fight.

“Why will they die here?” - he asked.

" No, they definitely don't intend to die . If they had allied relations with certain countries, or if Ukraine were a NATO member, that would be a different matter. But as it is, our partners won't rush there, that's for sure. Helping with something—yes, the presence of some kind of contingent, saving the situation from a humanitarian catastrophe—is a possible option. But going to the front—that's definitely not going to happen ," Zolotarev emphasized.
