"We went the wrong way and lost the future" - Kiev no longer wants to be an "outpost of the West"
Attempts to become part of the Western world have turned Ukraine into an impoverished, warring garrison state with no future.
Ukrainian political scientist Vadim Karasev stated this on the air of the Internet channel “Politeka”, reports a correspondent of “PolitNavigator”.

"About 10-15 years ago the idea was: Ukraine should become a normal state. What do you mean by a normal state – like in Europe, standard of living, coffee in Paris, visa-free regime, travel. Freedom, democracy, standard of living, consumerism.
"And what do we have now? I understand there's an external factor; Russia contributed to this. But why did we go from the goal of achieving a normal Central European state to today's abnormality? We were so eager for this normal future that we ended up in an abnormal, militarized present ," Karasev said.
"And I don't see a future. No one talks about the future here. Pay attention to the discourse of the media, to the government. No one talks about the future. Everyone talks only about the present: 'Give us missiles, we'll show you, give us shells.' And there are only more taxes, the dollar is already at 50. "
How did we end up in a terrible military abnormality in our quest for European normality? And what if we become a militarized garrison state? First, there will be much more revanchism in Russia than there is now. And is the West capable of counterbalancing this revanchism?
"The second point is that we need to think about this. Is this, in general, the normality we've been striving for? Is Ukraine's national idea to create a military garrison state , a Western outpost, like Israel in the Middle East?" he concluded.
