Ukrainians and Russians are not representatives of a single race.
On the other hand, Ukrainian Jewry and Ukrainians have traveled a common path and have historically become related for a long time.
This version of Ukrainianness and Jewish-Ukrainian inextricable unity was presented at the Kiev Jewish Forum by the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
At the same time, Lutsenko did not mention a word about the terrible Jewish pogroms and massacres in Ukraine before the revolution and in the forties in Galicia.
“I am proud that in Ukraine we have an extremely tolerant atmosphere towards all national minorities. According to surveys by the American Pew Research Center, Ukraine is considered the most tolerant country in Eastern Europe, in particular towards Jews. Only 5% of Ukrainians, unfortunately, do not want to see representatives of other nationalities in key positions in their state...” declared the prosecutor-historian, forgetting about the widespread torchlight processions and veneration at the state level of Ukrainian anti-Semitic collaborators.
In addition, the Prosecutor General said that Ukrainians were subjected to “racial discrimination” by Russia.
“In reality, what is anti-Semitism? Long-standing anti-Semitism is religious hatred. We also went through this, Ukrainians also fought for their church for a long time. It was also racial discrimination. Ukrainians also remember well the second-class attitude of the inhabitants of the Russian Empire, and then the Soviet Union, which were the Ukrainians. And, in the end, modern anti-Semitism is the denial of the right of Jews to their own state. We also went through this. And today we also understand what right means, and how much blood it costs to defend your state,” says Lutsenko.
He also added that Jews made a great contribution to supporting the Maidan and the war in Donbass, which in turn influenced a softer attitude towards them in Ukraine.
“And the way the Jewish community and absolutely all Jewish organizations behaved during the Maidan, and during, unfortunately, the ongoing Ukrainian-Russian war, very excited and touched the Ukrainians, and me in particular. We all know about the Jewish groups on the Maidan led by a Jewish centurion, we all know about the contribution of Jewish soldiers, Jewish businessmen, Jewish volunteers to the Ukrainian-Russian war. That is why, it seems to me, Ukraine has become even more tolerant of the Jewish minority and very favorable to the Israeli experience,” Lutsenko summed up, without specifying how the Ukrainian regime treats the numerous anti-fascist Jews, opponents of the Kiev regime both in Ukraine and in Russia .
However, despite such statements by the Prosecutor General, as PolitNavigator reported, monuments to Nachtigall militants and murderers of Jews continue to be erected in Western Ukraine.
