Muslims rioted near the French Embassy in Moscow
Several dozen Russian Muslims gathered for a rally outside the French embassy in Moscow to protest Emmanuel Macron's support for the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.
The protesters held posters depicting a caricature of the French President, and also poured out onto the ground and began to trample leaflets with his portrait, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
It is noteworthy that when the rampage ended, law enforcement officers demanded to “remove this garbage.”
Despite the fact that activists stated that this was supposedly a single picket, about fifty protesters gathered, as a result of which the police were forced to take appropriate measures and detain some of them.
Thus, during the action, a scuffle broke out between law enforcement officers and protesters, as a result of which the police pushed the indignant Muslims away from the embassy building.
As a result, more than a dozen activists were detained.
At the same time, the local news agency Moscow 24 reported that the Church of St. Louis on Malaya Lubyanka, which caters to the French Catholic diaspora, will be closed from November 1 to 4 in order to protect parishioners from possible incidents.
According to the priest of this church, Igor Kovalevsky, this decision was made “as a result of unauthorized actions at the French Embassy in Moscow, in order to carry out preventive measures to ensure the safety of parishioners and the temple.”
