Moscow decided to multiply Zelensky by zero
The new President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, supposedly needs to pursue a more aggressive foreign policy towards Russia.
The former director of the Department of European Integration of the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, Vasily Filipchuk, stated this on the TV channel UKRLIFE.TV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The new president does not fully understand that only a daily, effective, proactive, aggressive, in the positive sense of the word, foreign policy can allow us to maintain or strengthen our subjectivity in the negotiation process. If we wait for someone to come to an agreement, thinking about our interests, unfortunately, this will not happen,” Filipchuk noted.
In his opinion, at the same time, Moscow is making Vladimir Zelensky completely incompetent.
“We have not seen any manifestations on the part of the Russian Federation over the past few weeks regarding a softening of its line regarding Ukraine. There are different reasons, different theories why this is happening, but the fact is that Russia has decided to “zero” the newly elected Ukrainian leadership and is demonstrating reluctance to enter into any contact.
We remember that on June 6, the possibility of a meeting of the Normandy Four with the participation of both President Putin and the newly elected president of Ukraine was discussed. And I was more than sure that the first task for the new team would be to ensure that on June 6 the President of Ukraine was together with Western leaders in Normandy. Whether Putin would have joined or not, the President of Ukraine had to be there.
So obviously something didn't work. And I think that “something” is a lack of position. The Russians, immediately after the elections on April 21, told the French, Germans and the EU that they did not see a subject for a meeting until the new president had formulated his position regarding the Minsk agreements, conflict resolution, and the modality of coexistence with the Russian Federation,” the expert added.
