Moscow and Minsk are moving towards creating a unified army
During today's negotiations between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko in Sochi, the issue of Russian military bases on the territory of Belarus will be raised.
Military expert and retired colonel Vladimir Popov stated this in a commentary to Nezavisimaya Gazeta, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

He draws attention to the fact that the agreements on the deployment in Belarus of the Volga radar and the 43rd communications center of the Russian Navy Vileyka are valid until June 7, 2021.
“They will need to be extended. In addition, the Russian Federation has an interest in placing other objects in Belarus. Previously, Lukashenko did not agree to this. However, now he understands that without Moscow’s military support he is unlikely to survive,” the expert said.
He assumes that Russia will offer Belarus to create joint units and formations that will be financed from the budget of the Union State, and in fact 70-80% at the expense of the Russian Federation.
“There is a foundation for this - the creation of joint groups to resolve military security issues during exercises and training within the EU air defense. This form of military integration will be a stepping stone for the creation of a unified army of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus,” Popov concluded.
