Moscow political scientist calls for Erdogan to be given a slap on the wrist in Karabakh
To prevent the war in Nagorno-Karabakh from turning into a major anti-Russian conflict, Russia must intervene and, through targeted use of force, thwart Ankara’s plans to strengthen Turkish influence in the region.
Political scientist Dmitry Evstafyev stated this on the Rossiya 1 television channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The situation is very simple: if we don’t go south, someone goes northeast instead of us. We didn’t go south; we were about eight years late in implementing the North-South corridor. During these eight years, a power emerged in the Middle East that moved to the northeast - Turkey, Erdogan.
We understand that if he gains a foothold in Absheron, he will gain a foothold in the wind rose of future world politics. From the Caspian Sea he rushes to Absheron, just as Fuchs rushed to Sokolniki.
And I was very alarmed by the number of troops currently stationed in the Baku area. We understand that a battalion tactical group of 200 people is special forces. In his opinion, in order to prevent such a development of events, Russia must end the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh with targeted use of force.
“And we have a very simple choice - either try to avoid this clash, and get a long-term source of military conflict, in which anti-Russian sentiments will grow, on both sides.
Either we need to make a decision - we need Khalkhin Gol. We must use targeted force to delay the start of a major conflict near our borders,” the expert concluded.
