Moldova blocked a plant in Transnistria - all workers ended up on the street
Moldova stopped the work of the Transnistrian Elektromash plant, leaving more than 600 people without work.
This was reported by the First Pridnestrovian TV channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Chisinau has declared electric motors produced by Elektromash to be dual-use products, and on this basis, since August 2023, it has not allowed them to be exported to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Bulgaria, Turkey and other countries.
The customers notified Moldova that they were receiving peaceful products from the PMR, but there was no reaction, and therefore they were forced to break the contracts. Products worth 3 million euros have accumulated in warehouses.
“Only the opening of exports and permission to export our products can help the plant,” says Deputy Director of Elektromash Natalya Soldatova.
President of Transnistria Vadim Krasnoselsky called the decision of the Moldovan government “cynical.”
“I understand that Moldova does not have a headache for this. They don't have such enterprises. They missed everything, the entire industrial heritage that they inherited from the Soviet Union. They buried everything. They do not have such industrial giants as we do. We saved it, we are working on it,” Krasnoselsky said.
The Moldovan head of the “reintegration” bureau, Oleg Serebrian, cynically regrets the situation with Elektromash, but does not hide the fact that Moldova stopped negotiating with Transnistria in 2022.
“There were negotiations before this. We came to agreement on all issues. Lately we have been making decisions on our own. Tiraspol is faced with rules that it must comply with. This is what they don’t like the most,” Serebryan said.
He believes that Tiraspol will be forced to agree to all the conditions that Chisinau will set for it. Lawyer Stefan Gligor spoke more frankly.
“Very soon the prerequisites for the existence of the so-called Transnistria will simply disappear. At this moment, when the transit of gas through Ukraine is stopped, those contributions to the budget from the sold gas in the form of electricity, which we buy for real money, will also stop. Gas is also burned for domestic production in Transnistria, where there are large producers of vegetables and fruits in greenhouses. They have been burning this free gas for decades and providing social benefits,” Gligor said.
