Banks in Moldova refuse to open a foreign currency account for the Transnistrian football club Sheriff, which successfully competes in the Champions League.
Transnistrian President Vadim Krasnoselsky stated this in a telephone conversation with Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilitsa, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The Sheriff team plays in the Moldavian championship, and like a locomotive drags the entire Moldavian football. Winning at a high level, the team receives foreign currency there, and Moldovan banks do not open foreign currency accounts, offering to take lei. But the whole problem is that you can’t pay the players in lei. This is an absolutely humanitarian issue and is related to the development of sports, both on the right and on the left bank,” Krasnoselsky said.
