Ministry of Culture of Ukraine: There are no museums in Crimea
Ukraine fears that the Dutch court will return Scythian gold to Crimea.
This was stated by Deputy Minister of Culture of Ukraine Svetlana Fomenko, speaking at a meeting of the appeal court in Amsterdam, where the case of the return of Scythian gold to the Crimean museum is being considered
“Ukraine opposes the illegal transfer of ownership of artifacts from the Ukrainian exhibition “Crimea. Golden Island in the Black Sea" to the Russian Federation, Russian institutions hidden under the name of the so-called "Crimean museums" that exist only within the framework of court cases. Under occupation, what are the so-called “Crimean museums”? It is absolutely obvious and clear that there are no Ukrainian museums on the Crimean peninsula; they are captured and plundered by the occupation authorities,” the website of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine quotes Fomenko.
She claims that in Russian Crimea the Khan's Palace in Bakhchisarai was “almost destroyed”.
“The occupation authorities consider the Crimean peninsula as a base of military operations for further military escalation in Europe and throughout the world. Now Crimea is a place where cultural values are not protected and preserved for future generations,” the official said.
According to her, if a decision is made to return gold to the peninsula, this “will be recognition of the attempt to annex Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.”
