Migrants make up 7% of the population in the Russian Federation - statistics
Russian President Vladimir Putin called for special attention to be paid to the development of legislation on the adaptation of migrants.

He stated this today in Astrakhan at a meeting of the Council on Interethnic Relations.
“Currently, this area is not provided with sufficient legal norms, organizational and economic instruments. It is necessary to determine the federal body responsible for this area. We also need specialized specialists,” the Kremlin’s official website quotes Putin as saying.
According to the head of the Federal Agency for Nationalities Affairs, Igor Barinov, the total number of foreign citizens falling under the category of migrants in Russia is about 10 million people. This is equivalent to 7 percent of the population.
“Currently, the powers for social and cultural adaptation and integration of migrants at the federal level are not actually assigned to any of the ministries and departments: there is no regulatory framework, conceptual apparatus, systemic, comprehensive approaches to solving these problems,” Barinov said.
