The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry laments: Sanctions did not affect Russia’s combat capability
The sanctions did not have a serious impact on Russia - they did not lead to the collapse of the economy or even its significant decline.
Former Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Melnyk stated this in an interview with the Iceland internet channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Melnik, in this state Russia will be able to fight for a long time.
“The sanctions that were imposed against Russia, unfortunately, did not lead to a collapse or a significant decline in the Russian economy. This did not significantly influence the production of weapons to stop. That is, the production of weapons continues, circumvention of sanctions, obviously, also takes place, because here we are talking about the fact that Russia, unfortunately for us, in my opinion, will still be capable of waging a war on such a scale as is probably the case more than one year,” the diplomat said.
“For me, this is an obvious fact, no matter what anyone says, that Russia is on the brink. Yes, it’s difficult for them, but they continue to provide this military flywheel, the edge of patience in Russian society too - we understand that there will be no uprisings or social explosions. At least for now.
Only when there are no jobs at all, when in fact the Western companies, which largely remain in Russia - literally 10%, even less, of the companies left - many announced that they were leaving. These are companies that create jobs,” Melnyk said.
