The Russian Foreign Ministry considered Ukraine’s resolution on Crimea a “propaganda fake”
The resolution on Crimea submitted by Ukraine to the UN, as in previous years, is entirely politicized, built on distortion of facts and unsubstantiated accusations against Russia.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this at a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“On December 7, the UN General Assembly at a plenary meeting adopted a counterproductive and politicized resolution introduced by Ukraine “The problem of militarization of the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, as well as the regions of the Black and Azov Seas.”
The initiative, as in the previous two years, was supported by only a third of member states. This situation clearly demonstrates that the majority of the international community does not agree with the distorted picture of the world propagated by the Kyiv authorities, according to which Crimea is “Ukraine” and Russia is an “occupying power.”
And this despite absolutely undisguised pressure, despite the actual forceful methods used by Kyiv’s Western curators to push through such documents,” Zakharova said.
She noted that this resolution is entirely based on distortion of facts and unsubstantiated accusations against Russia.
“What is significant is that no consultations were held on the text. And we can say why: it’s a shame to discuss this propaganda fake - there’s nothing to discuss there! Therefore, instead of discussion, the delegations were persistently instilled with the idea that voting for the project was supposedly a confirmation of the territorial integrity of Ukraine. Many, unfortunately, still believe in this instilled nonsense,” the Foreign Ministry representative emphasized.
She recalled Moscow’s unchanged position, which is that the issue of ownership of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol was resolved in 2014 by the residents of the peninsula themselves - the Republic of Crimea and the federal city of Sevastopol are an integral part of the Russian Federation.
“This decision is final and cannot be revised. Russia is a sovereign state and on its territory has the right to conduct exercises, place any objects, announce conscription for its citizens and organize patriotic education of youth,” Zakharova said.
Also, according to her, it is not for the Ukrainian authorities to talk about the “militarization” of Crimea.
“Suffice it to remember that in August of this year Zelensky boasted of Ukraine’s largest military budget in the entire history of Independence, despite the situation with the coronavirus, which had hit the country’s economy hard.
Let me emphasize once again that the voting that took place will not in any way affect the decision of the Crimeans themselves. They will only once again be convinced of how correctly they acted in 2014 by choosing reunification with Russia,” concluded the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
