Local authorities in Italian Lombardy consider Crimea Russian – media
In response to a letter from the Ukrainian consul in Milan protesting the business visit to Crimea by representatives of the northern Italian regions of Lombardy and Venice, Jari Kolla, head of the regional council that recognized Crimea as Russian, stated that he understood the consul's concerns but could do nothing because "the people of Crimea expressed their desire to be part of Russia through a referendum," according to the Italian publication Milano Today.

Local regional authorities in Northern Italy, taking advantage of the broad rights provided by the decentralization policy, are actively establishing business contacts with both Russia and Crimea, bypassing European sanctions, the publication notes. Note that power in these areas is represented by the right-wing autonomist Northern League.
