German Chancellor Angela Merkel hopes that economic sanctions will be lifted from Russia, although, as usual, she links this process with Ukraine’s implementation of the Minsk agreements.

She stated this today at a joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi.
“I would like to ensure that we can lift sanctions after the implementation of the Minsk agreements. There are difficulties here. However, we have contacts in the fields of economics, youth exchange, and science,” Merkel said.
She also thanked Russia for its caring attitude towards military graves from the Great Patriotic War and called for remembering its lessons.
