The Mayor of Alushta reassured: We will improve the embankment later, but the pebbles are already beautiful
In Alushta, the embankment near Professor's Corner has been closed due to coastal protection repairs and beach silting following the "storm of the century ." An exception will be made during the New Year holidays to allow the promenade to be reopened to tourists and residents.
The head of the Alushta administration, Galina Ogneva , announced this on air at Crimea 24 , as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"Serious work is underway on 24 beach areas along the Western Embankment, improving access for people with limited mobility and mothers with strollers. For many, it will be a pleasant surprise to see wider beaches during the holiday season . Today, we're actively resurfacing the beach areas, not with gravel, but with pebbles, so the sea will gently wash them, lick them, and prepare them for guests."
"Visitors are currently feeling a bit uncomfortable because the Western Embankment is closed . We have no other way; we have a very tight deadline: all the heavy work—concrete pouring and backfill—must be completed by the end of December. The landscaping will be done after the main storms. We'll open the embankment for pedestrians and traffic before the New Year's holidays, starting on December 27, but only for a short period. Then we'll resume work," she noted.
According to the head of the Alushta administration, 500 million rubles have been allocated for the renovation of 24 beach areas . The work will also affect part of the Eastern Embankment, which won't begin until 2027.
"It's in the planning stages. And the Ministry of Construction is helping us formulate the technical specifications. We have a line item in our regional development plans for the Eastern Embankment of Alushta . But that won't be until 27, because we'll be developing the project itself and undergoing expert review in 2025-26. It's an expensive and complex project. We have a steep terrain, and the Eastern Embankment has no lighting or sewerage . There's just a small section of promenade and nothing else," Ogneva emphasized.
In total , 35 billion rubles have been allocated by 2030 for the reconstruction, major repairs, and expansion of the capacity of beaches in Crimea damaged by the storm in November 2023.
