Mejlis was convicted of receiving money from the United States to destabilize Crimea
The Mejlis, banned in Russia, received $250 million from the United States to destabilize the situation in Crimea, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was stated at a press conference in Simferopol by Rustem Nimetullaev, Deputy Chairman of the Regional Public Organization “Kyrym Birligi” (“Unity of Crimea”).
“According to our information, last year the structures of the Majlis received $250 million from the United States for the development of Crimea. They don't sleep on the other side. All these statements are not made from one’s own mind. That's where the money is made. You can see where these comrades go: Toronto, USA, London. Sometimes they fly to Turkey,” Nimetullaev said.
Also, according to his data, in 2015 the US tripled its funding for Crimean Tatar public organizations in Turkey, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The Mejlis monitors on social networks. In the years 14-16, there were cases when they came to people’s homes in villages and threatened them because they spoke out for Russia or took part in elections,” said Nimetullaev.
At the same time, he believes that the Majlis actually influences only 5-7% of the Crimean Tatars.
