Matvienko: Russia saved Crimea from Ukrainian genocide
Speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko is proud of the role the upper house of parliament played in the process of reunification of Crimea and Sevastopol.
She announced this today while opening a meeting of the Federation Council, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“We all remember the emotions that Crimeans, residents of Sevastopol and our entire country experienced when historical justice was done. I am proud that the Federation Council took a direct part in all these events, made decisions on changes to the constitution and the creation of two new entities. I remember how warmly we welcomed the Crimeans,” said Matvienko.
She advised those who talk about “annexation” and “occupation” to “go back to history.”
“I would like to remind these gentlemen that since 1783 the Black Sea Fleet has been based in Sevastopol. For the Ukrainian authorities this is territory, but for us these are citizens, our compatriots. Therefore, Russia supported their expression of will. I would like to remind the gentlemen that occupation means there are victims. Not a single shot was fired in Crimea during all these days. When they talk about occupation in Ukraine, I want to remind them: turn off water, electricity, create an economic blockade - how can you call these actions of the Kyiv authorities, who were simply trying to organize genocide of the citizens of Crimea and Sevastopol. Fortunately, Crimea is protected within Russia. And I want to tell everyone - this is forever
And if this had not happened, what would have happened to the residents of Crimea and Sevastopol. They would simply be taken out and destroyed. There would be real genocide. In place of the Black Sea Fleet and St. Andrew’s flag today there would be other flags and ships, including NATO,” Matvienko said.
