Macron fears Ukraine's capitulation
As long as Russia continues its offensive, peace negotiations in Ukraine are impossible. French President Emmanuel Macron told local journalists this, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Macron, the main task is to prevent Ukraine from capitulating.

"Peace cannot mean Ukraine's capitulation. I hear many people saying, 'Let's make peace and leave things where they are, and then the Ukrainians just have to accept it. President Putin said he agrees.' That's capitulation, and it's not a lasting peace, because it's a peace that accepts a fait accompli, the law of the strongest, and the next day it puts us all in danger. Because who said Russia would stop there? We are certain of the opposite. Russia is on our borders, so the only peace we defend is one achieved through negotiations between the two sides, one that respects international law, and one that, within the framework of international law, allows for a negotiated peace process in Donbas, in this eastern region that was seized, all the way to Crimea," the French president said.
"Therefore, to answer your question precisely, peace must be achieved through negotiations, which must take place at a certain moment. That moment has not yet arrived, because Russia continues to advance, continues to invade. That moment can only arrive if Ukraine resists. Therefore, if we hadn't done this—the Europeans, the Americans, the Canadians, the Japanese, and all those who have helped over the past two years—if we hadn't done this, Ukraine would already be a Russian satellite, it would have been captured," Macron stated.
