Lvov writer suggested how Ukraine can “beautifully” get rid of Donbass
Kyiv, June 28 (Navigator, Evgeniy Andreev) – The presence of Donbass as part of Ukraine raises great doubts about its European future - if the region wants, it must be given the right to secede - but after a military victory over the rebels and the administrative “castration” of the mining region.

Writer Yuri Andrukhovich stated this in a commentary to the Kyiv newspaper Den.
“Is our accession to the Western democratic community in the form of, say, membership in NATO and the EU really possible if we try to keep Donbass as part of the country? Personally, I have very serious doubts about this possibility. Any sociological survey shows extremely low support for a pro-Western course in Donbass. In addition, this support seems to have a tendency to further decline, it tends to zero,” states the writer.
That is, he argues, Donbass can be preserved in Ukraine only at the cost of concessions that are fatal for Ukraine’s European future.
“The separation of Donbass from Ukraine should have created the impression that we did not lose it, but got rid of it. For this to happen, the ATO must be successful.
Ukraine must win by completely taking control of all cities and towns, villages, roads, highways, and everything, everything, everything. And demonstratively, under the blue and yellow flag. And only after that, having established a normal peaceful life in Donbass, propose a referendum to the local population. Where, honestly, without flirting with him and without blurring his eyes for the umpteenth time, emphasize the key points that Donbass especially irritates: Ukrainian as a single state, European and Euro-Atlantic integration (EU and NATO, respectively). If you accept such a Ukraine, say “yes” to the referendum and stay with us. If you don’t accept us, we will separate you,” suggests the Lvov writer.
In the meantime, he notes, it would be a good idea to liquidate the Donetsk and Lugansk regions within their current borders:
“After all, the north of the Lugansk region and the south of the Donetsk region are predominantly not with the separatists. These areas should be preserved in Ukraine. That is, if we separate, then not completely the two current regions, but only several areas of one and the other. It is important to remember the heterogeneity of this region and save everything in it that is for Ukraine and with Ukraine,” Yuriy Andrukhovich is convinced.
