Lvov journalists praise Russian-speaking ultras for their “kebab” on May 2
In Ukrainian sports, most athletes speak Russian, but their Ukrainization continues.
Sports analyst Ivan Yaremko stated this on the air of the First Western TV channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“When Karl Miklos came as the head of the [Karpaty] team, the Ukrainian language was heard in the team by everyone - both with the support staff and with the players. Only Gena Likhachev allowed himself, but he was a Muscovite from Saratov, and nothing could be demanded of him. Already in the 2000s, when Markevich was there, the Ukrainian language was used. Yaremchenko came - the Ukrainian language, Ishchenko - the Ukrainian language. Well, Kononov was a Belarusian, let’s say. But in sports, we have to admit, the Russian language prevails. In the national teams of Ukraine, many, different now - we are interviewing. They are now trying to speak Ukrainian more, this is true, but nevertheless, we still feel the consequences of the Soviet on ourselves, unfortunately,” Yaremko said.
The studio also discussed the use of the Ukrainian language by football fans, and the host of the program, Oleg Radik, thanked the Russian-speaking ultras of the Odessa “Chernomorets” who took part in the burning of protesters on May 2, 2014.
“Fans of “Chernomorets” or “Chernomorets” – fans of “Chernomorets” have honor and glory for a good barbecue in May of one year. So there are no complaints against them here. I am convinced that they are mostly Russian-speaking,” Radik said.
