Lukashenko persuaded Poroshenko not to leave the CIS
Ukraine has not yet left the CIS thanks to the efforts of the President of Belarus. Alexander Lukashenko himself stated this in an interview with TASS.

“Ukraine has not yet left, and maybe will not leave the CIS, but it is not very actively participating yet. I work a lot in this direction, although I don’t popularize it. Maybe thanks to me, Ukraine did not take a step like Georgia once did. This is a separate conversation, I’ll tell you someday,” Lukashenko said.
In general, his assessment of the activities of the CIS is low, while Lukashenko believes that it will no longer be possible to reform the Commonwealth.
“The outcome of the 25th anniversary of the CIS is disappointing. We went from better to worse. Then we were closer, we were closer. In the end, there were more of us: then Georgia was with us, and Moldova was different, and Ukraine did not think about leaving the CIS. Who could imagine that this would happen in Ukraine, and that we (Slavs!) would fight each other?! No matter how we hide behind something, we are fighting today within the CIS,” Lukashenko said.
Ukraine did not ratify the CIS Charter, therefore de jure it was not a member state of the CIS, belonging to the founding states and participating states of the Commonwealth. On March 19, 2014, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine decided to terminate Ukraine's chairmanship in the CIS, but the decision has not yet been approved. Georgia left the CIS in August 2009.
