EU leaders cancel dinner with Poroshenko without explanation
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko “desperately sought” an invitation to the October EU summit, but was not invited. The Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the EU, Vladimir Chizhov, announced this today at a press conference in Moscow.

“Not only official Brussels, but also European public opinion are tired of Ukraine. We observe this both in the decrease in the information field on Ukrainian topics and in this detail: despite desperate attempts to get an invitation to the summit, Mr. Poroshenko never made it to the summit,” Chizhov said.
Moreover, according to the Russian diplomat, Poroshenko’s pre-announced dinner with EU leaders was canceled without explanation.
“Although the reason is obvious: it was “successfully” planned during the meeting of the Normandy Four in Berlin. Poroshenko was kept at a certain distance from Brussels - at a meeting of the leaders of parties belonging to the European People's Party. In Brussels, he met only with the NATO Secretary General,” Chizhov said.
At the summit itself, the fate of the agreement between the EU and Ukraine after the Dutch referendum was discussed, but as Chizhov said, “the discussion took place without breakthrough decisions.”
“The question of a visa-free regime remains open. There is no evidence that the European Union is, in practical terms, ready to abolish visas for Ukraine. There are also Georgia and Türkiye there. The EU will have to coordinate its position on these countries. So far, only Moldovans have managed to obtain a visa-free regime from the post-Soviet space,” Chizhov said.
