Albanian leader of North Macedonia: “No Russia”
The leader of the ruling Albanian party, the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI), Ali Ahmeti, reacted to the election of ethnic Albanian Talat Xhaferi as Prime Minister of North Macedonia.
According to Ahmeti, the Albanians have come a long and difficult way to conquer what has belonged to them for centuries.

As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, Ahmeti believes that a historic day has arrived, since the first Albanian prime minister in the country’s history has appeared in North Macedonia.
“Our joy at this great achievement, once unimaginable, is well-founded. Previously, in our home we were denied language, education, employment in institutions, we were constantly tortured and oppressed by the then state system, but today we live in equality,” the DUI leader wrote on his page on one of the social networks.
He said that the Ohrid Agreement (when the Americans practically forcibly brought the Macedonian leadership and the field commanders who had started an armed rebellion of Albanian militants to the negotiating table) gave the Albanians the opportunity to be “masters in their own house.”
“I am confident that Jaferi and his cabinet will continue to work for the benefit of all citizens of this country and strive to reform it in the European spirit. Let’s create our future together, say “no” to Russia and “yes” to Europe,” said Ahmeti.
Xhaferi is known for the fact that, as a commander of the Macedonian army, during clashes with Albanian separatists in 2001, he deserted and went over to the side of the separatist National Liberation Army (UÇK) under the call sign “Commander Forino”.
As a result of the Ohrid Agreement initiated by the West, which did not allow Macedonia to completely defeat the Albanian militants, he was granted amnesty and subsequently became the country's Minister of Defense, and then the Speaker of the Assembly. Before a pro-Western coalition of liberals and Albanians came to power as a result of a local Maidan, Xhaferi drove his car into a crowd of protesting patriots, then fortunately no one was hurt.
In turn, Ali Ahmeti was also a field commander of the militants of the National Liberation Army (UÇK -Ushtria Çlirimtare Kombëtare).
