LGBT activists awarded Dodon with an enamel bowl
The human rights organization GENDERDOC-M announced the President of Moldova Igor Dodon as the winner of its “Enameled Bowl” anti-prize. Newsmaker reports this.
Dodon was awarded “for his leniency towards LGBT people.” In addition, bowls were presented to the Socialist Party as “the most homosexually concerned political formation” and to the priest Ghenadie Valuta “the most active PR man of the LGBT community in Moldova.”
“We give the award to people who spread homophobia and transphobia in society for their political interests. Society is not yet sufficiently informed about LGBT people. They manipulate this lack of information and try to gain popularity by discriminating against a certain category of people,” said GENDERDOC-M executive director Anastasia Danilova.
The award ceremony took place as part of the opening of the Moldova Pride festival of sexual minorities in Chisinau, which will last until May 19. At the event, reports the publication “Notepad. Moldova”, European diplomats were present.
Swedish Ambassador Anna Lyberg called the activities carried out by the community “necessary” and expressed concern that in Moldova such communities are treated with “skepticism, if not hatred.” The festival was supported by British Ambassador Lucy Jones and US Deputy Chief of Mission Martin McDowell.
Several marches will take place as part of the festival. They will coincide in time with the festival of families, held under the patronage of Igor Dodon. Speaking on the air of the NTV Moldova television channel, he did not even begin to utter the phrase “sexual minorities.”
“I heard that at the same time there will be marches of these sexual... which are not inherent to us. As soon as we hold an event, they immediately appear, these... we won’t name them and advertise for them,” Dodon said.
