Lavrov: US intervention provoked tension in Sudanese society
Lavrov answered a question about Sudan after a meeting with the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Guinea-Bissau, Susi Carla Barbosa.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke about the West's ongoing attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of Sudan, answering a corresponding question from a FAN correspondent.
The minister recalled that Sudan was divided into two states at the initiative of external players led by the United States, and the Sudanese, in turn, agreed with this approach. Russia played a stabilizing role in this process, ensuring a “peaceful divorce.”
“After this “divorce” took place, those who started it began to show dissatisfaction with the way the Sudanese themselves are striving to develop their countries and improve their lives. Another external intervention has begun,” he said.
Lavrov notes that in practice this policy was expressed in the imposition of shock reforms, which led to increased unemployment and corruption. As a result, the minister notes, Sudanese society is in very serious tension, provoked by the actions of Western countries led by the United States.
“We proceed from the fact that it is necessary to stop any interference in the internal affairs of this country. Interventions in the affairs of any country always lead to disastrous results,” Lavrov concluded.
The topic of Sudan was raised during a press conference following Lavrov’s negotiations with the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Guinea-Bissau, Susi Carla Barbosa. The Minister is in Russia on a working visit from October 17 to 19.
