The Armenian leadership was obliged to initially explain to its people the impossibility of maintaining further control over the “buffer” areas around Karabakh. Official Yerevan itself provoked disappointment among part of the population and gave the opposition the opportunity to speculate on the feelings of the protesters.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this at a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“We see the protests that have now risen in Yerevan, we see how much the opposition is trying to exploit this situation. Of course, there are sincere people there who are probably offended that everything is ending this way at this stage.

"Although, I emphasize: there should have been no illusions that the seven districts surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh should forever remain in the same state they were in just a month or two ago . And the responsible authorities were obliged to explain to the population that at some point this settlement would have to be implemented in accordance with the principles that have been on the table for many years, proposed to the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair and opened the ideal path to resolving the conflict without any bloodshed," Lavrov stated.

“Yesterday Vladimir Putin spoke with Pashinyan, this morning I spoke with the head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, I am convinced that the Armenian government understands the full extent of its responsibility, understands that it signed these agreements based on the highest interests of its people, and I am convinced that the integrity this agreement will be preserved and it will be implemented,” added the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
