Moscow – Kiev, February 12 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Shtamm) – According to Kommersant , State Duma deputy, former journalist, and brother of the liberal lawyer murdered by Russian nationalists, Mikhail Markelov, will replace Boris Rappoport, who resigned, in the presidential administration to oversee the DPR and LPR.

The Department for Cooperation with the CIS, Abkhazia and South Ossetia, where Markelov may be appointed to oversee the DPR and LPR, is headed by Oleg Govorun. The direction is supervised by Putin’s assistant Vladislav Surkov.
One of the newspaper’s interlocutors noted that Markelov has known Govorun and Surkov for a long time, understands interethnic relations, and how the journalist worked in hot spots. Before his election to the State Duma in 2011, Markelov headed the political department in the plenipotentiary mission of the North Caucasus Federal District under the leadership of the then plenipotentiary Alexander Khloponin. “He's the right man for the job. Moreover, it cannot be said that there is no end to candidates, given what is happening in Ukraine now,” another interlocutor noted. A source well acquainted with the management’s work called Mr. Markelov a “universal technologist.”
