Kuchma: Most Russians accepted the SVO with shameful joy
The newest Russian history textbooks, which claim that the idea of Ukrainian independence was initially the result of the subversive activities of the Austro-Hungarian special services in historical Russian territories, are “the quintessence of fakes.”
This was stated by ex-President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma in Kyiv at the presentation of his republished book “Ukraine is not Russia.”

“The latest example can be found in the newest school history textbook, which is simply the quintessence of lies and forgeries. It states that the ideas of Ukrainianism were developed and disseminated by various enemies of Russia - from the Austro-Hungarians to the Nazis,” Kuchma said.
“A twisted, fictitious story is presented there as a reason for aggression. Like a license to kill,” added the former “red director.”
According to Kuchma, after the start of the Second World War, Russian citizens became forever strangers to him, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“They should leave us alone if they are not capable of equal relations, of friendship. But the shameful joy with which the majority of Russians accepted Putin’s invasion showed that I was in vain trying to prove something to them,” he laments.
