Simferopol, March 18 (Navigator, Astra Yazyka) – The Crimean police made an official statement regarding the shooting on Kubanskaya Street in Simferopol. Law enforcement officers confirmed the presence of two killed - a self-defense fighter and a military serviceman, as well as two wounded on both sides.

“According to preliminary data, the shots were fired from one place in two directions,” the police clarified. “An unknown person fired from the window of an unfinished building located in close proximity to a military unit, at self-defense representatives who were checking the signal about the presence of armed people in the said unfinished building, and towards the Ukrainian military unit located nearby.”
Self-defense representatives, having received information about the presence of a group of armed people in a building near Kuban Street, went to check. At that moment, fire was opened on them from, presumably, a sniper rifle.
“It should be noted that similar tactics were used during the riots on the Maidan in Kyiv, when both police officers and protesters were fired at at the same time,” the police emphasized. “It is possible that this provocation was planned, with the aim of destabilizing the situation in the city on the day when the agreement on the reunification of Crimea with Russia was signed.”
Now an investigative team consisting of employees of the prosecutor’s office and the Crimean police is working at the scene of the incident. A thorough inspection of the scene is being carried out.
“We urge citizens to remain calm, not to follow the lead of provocateurs, and to report all available information about suspicious persons to the internal affairs bodies for immediate response,” the message says.
