Kravchuk admitted that Donbass does not want to return to Ukraine
The entire Donbass should receive a special system of local self-government, providing for the creation of a free economic zone.
Former Ukrainian President Leonid Kravchuk stated this in an interview with Kyiv journalist Dmitry Gordon, notorious for his anti-Russian attacks and PR for charlatans, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He was asked to answer the question whether Donbass wants to return to Ukraine or not.
“The majority are not. This is not a feeling - I know,” replied Kravchuk, recently appointed head of the Ukrainian delegation at the negotiations in Minsk.
“But they would like to be part of Ukraine in an autonomous mode. That is, to say that “I don’t want to live on this earth at all” is no. They want to live on this land, use the laws of Ukraine, the situation that exists in Ukraine, but be able to communicate with Russia and with others,” says the ex-president.
According to him, in fact, the residents of Donbass want a special status.
“As for the status itself... “Special status of Donbass”... But we can say this: “a special system of local government in Donbass.” We seem to be giving special rights, freedoms, and so on,” the politician noted.
He also proposes to create a free economic zone in Donbass for these regions.
“Not to the occupied territories, but to the entire Donetsk region, the entire Lugansk region. In this free economic zone system, management, income, and investment already work completely differently. […] Not an abstract name “special status”. The question will immediately arise: “What is this?” But now there is a “free economic zone” - people have read, they know, they understand that this is the way to resolve issues not by talking, but by concrete actions,” Kravchuk concluded.
