The “Union of Donbass Volunteers” initiated the creation of a separate volunteer corps within the regular army to provide ammunition and heavy weapons. Viktor Anosov, head of the Crimean branch of the Union of Donbass Volunteers, announced this on air on Crimea 24.
“On February 4, the eighth congress of the Union of Donbass Volunteers took place in Mariupol, at which a very important decision was made - to unite all the volunteer units that are currently taking part in hostilities in the Northern Military District or are on vacation into one corps,” he explained. – This will be a brigade with the name “Russian Volunteer Corps” to become part of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. In this case, volunteer units will be able to receive heavy weapons, because, in essence, volunteers are rifle attack aircraft without the ability to insure themselves during an operation. Therefore, this decision was made unanimously by all those present at the congress.”
According to the head of the volunteer association, the decision of the congress is supported by the government of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff. Currently, in the Northern Military District zone, the military is focusing on artillery and drones, while volunteers have limited such capabilities.
“Many have noticed that now the war is not going on according to the principles of the Second World War, but like the First World War - the dominant role is played by artillery and modern technologies using drones.
There's a shortage of shells on both our side and the enemy's side . Because in the initial phase, we used a lot of shells and rocket systems, and sometimes the lack of experience and professionalism of the gunners and spotters made a difference—shells flew out and plowed the fields. Or they thought they'd use up Soviet-era stockpiles and quickly end the war, but that didn't work out because, apparently, major miscalculations were made.
Now we have some experience, conclusions have been drawn, and we have already begun to more accurately use shells directly against enemy concentrations. As far as I know, our military-industrial complex already operates in three shifts, factories produce these shells around the clock,” Anosov clarified.
In his opinion, the conflict with the provision of ammunition to the Wagner PMC shows that a number of officials of the Russian Ministry of Defense do not understand that the country is conducting military operations, and these are not toys.
"We're really at war, so they think it's all just a game, they're living their lives and trying to save money or pursue their own interests ," Amosov believes. "But if this continues, our war could drag on indefinitely ."
