DPR army commander: war could start at any minute
The Ukrainian Armed Forces can go on the offensive at any moment, but the DPR army is ready to repel any enemy attack.
The commander of the People's Militia of the DPR with the call sign “Baikal” told PolitNavigator about this.
P.N.: Can you predict how the situation will develop further along the line of contact and at the front in general?
Baikal: Predictions are a thankless task, because everything can start and end in an instant. Therefore, no one is likely to make any sweeping predictions. For our part, we're doing everything we can. We're constantly digging in and strengthening our positions. If the enemy decides to attack, we'll meet them with dignity.
P.N.: Not long ago, there were suggestions that Ukraine would launch an offensive ahead of the Russian presidential elections, then the World Cup. The topic of a Ukrainian offensive resurfaced after the assassination of the DPR commander-in-chief. How likely do you think Kyiv will finally launch a full-scale offensive?
Baikal: I think anything is possible. This can't go on forever. In any case, we won't give up our land to the enemy, and they won't go away without a fight either, so they need to go on the offensive. I think all this will happen sooner or later; it's just a matter of time. Perhaps the offensive will begin after the church is split; they're currently going through a very intense church war. Maybe then something will change, when the Orthodox people rise up.
P.N.: Do you think something might start happening by the upcoming Ukrainian presidential elections?
Baikal: I think there will definitely be some major provocations, because Poroshenko has no desire to simply leave; he needs some kind of action. If the war in Donbas continues, he'll be able to beg for money and stay in office. But I don't think there will be any positive changes under this president.
