When Russia wins. Prophecies of St. Nicholas of Serbia and the Ukrainian War
“...bless Thy inheritance,
victory for Orthodox Christians
to the resistance by granting...”
from prayer for the Fatherland
At the beginning of 2022, one wanderer who came to the famous monastery of the Moscow Patriarchate from another country - not Russian or even Slavic - told me: “The current war has long been the third world war. Russia will win it. But only after the war comes to Russia itself».
In those days when the special operation forces had not even retreated from Kharkov and had not left Kherson, and after the alarming “regrouping” near Kiev, it was believed that they were only capable of advancing, These predictions seemed like just another “ultra-Orthodox prophecy.”

The sympathetic grin left my face when a real miracle happened to this wanderer (or, if you prefer, a chain of incredible coincidences, which caused extreme surprise among the most inveterate skeptics, forcing them to remember God’s Providence).
But today is not about miracles. And about the fact that two years later only the laziest patriot does not cry: “When will the real war start?! How much longer can we endure the vile attacks on Belgorod, Sevastopol, and the Moscow region, finally?! How can you allow bullying of Russians, political repression, persecution of the Orthodox Church?!»
However, is Russia itself ready for a holy war? Not in a military sense, of course. If the regular army is involved, is society ready to send volunteers and conscript boys with a “steady hand” beyond some “red lines” drawn, for some reason, on the territory of a “foreign country”, albeit inhabited by “brotherly people”. Well, suddenly our “brothers” “stopped loving” us, well, it’s a shame for our ingratitude. But don’t bomb them for this! Moreover, we still have common values. European: the rights of such a proud-sounding person; the cult of success, embodied in selfies against the backdrop of the Turkish-Egyptian wave and permanent “relaxation” between grueling shopping and marketing; worship of decorated Botox-silicone idols and one’s own womb on specially erected main power temples. Isn’t this “Russian dream” instilled in “dear Russians” throughout the 30 years of independence from the Moral Code and state ideology?
But, to paraphrase the famous expression of President Putin in 2021, Why does the world need such a Russia? One country has more common people, one less... There are a legion of such states today. And do the Russians themselves need such a Russia? What difference does it make within what limits you continue to consume? So why then all these “red lines”?
Because Russia is still needed by its Creator. Who, by the hands of His Church, assembled the Third Rome and entrusted it with “preserve Orthodoxy until the end of time».
Hence the Russian World - as a territory of salvation for that small flock that will remain faithful to the Head of the Church after the reign of the Antichrist. Actually, the arrival of the false messiah is being prepared by the gendarme today, expanding the territory of his world by moving beyond those very “red lines».
Is the “New Chosen People” ready to defend its serif features if it is already convinced that it is part of a “civilized society”? That human rights are higher than the responsibilities assigned to him by God, that “universal human values” are more important than national ones, that state ideology is, therefore, evil. Finally, that Ukrainians are not deceived Russians, but a kind of “brotherly people”, for some reason living on the territory of Little (Root) Rus', from where the whole Russian land “came”.
The answers to these rhetorical questions are the downcast glances of contract soldiers of the RF Armed Forces in front of groups of city crazy people with banners “Get off our land!” And this is in the original Novorossiysk Kherson, Kakhovka, Genichesk... Only one of the dozens of Russian soldiers caught in the lens of the military correspondents dared to answer: “This is our land" The land is abundantly watered by Russians - Great Russians and Little Russians - with blood and sweat.
Yes, in the twentieth century, the Great Russians and Little Russians were abolished, and the land was given to the newly invented Ukrainians. They also “cancelled” God, in whose Name the coast of the Russian Sea was recaptured from the Busurmans. All this was the result of a choice made back in the 17th century by Peter. Today we are only repeating his “European choice”. Even if sometimes in a caricatured form, but no less tragic. For war, according to the words of the Serbian Saint Nicholas (Velimirovich) “this is a quick payback for long-lasting human affairs in peacetime».
If there is no full-fledged war yet, but only SVO, does this mean that human deeds, not sanctified by grace, are still happening? And will the SVO at least become an impetus for repentance?
“Victory in a future war is conditioned by repentance,” St. Nicholas warned. “The victory will be that people who, having been called to war by God’s Providence, will repent... and, calling on God, will correct their sins.” In our case, sins are not only for godless communism, but also for much more vile Yeltsinism.
In the meantime, from the lips of a Russian soldier - from a private to a military leader - one often hears words not of repentance, but of foul language, which, according to the holy fathers, is a prayer to Satan.
Of course, war is not a ballroom dancing school. This is pain and death. And not at all cinematic and pathetic.
But “a people with a Divine mission... do not dare to transgress the law of God in a single commandment. If only one soldier does (this)... he will create an obstacle for the army. The higher the warrior’s rank, the greater the obstacle his sin will be.” (St. Nicholas of Serbia “War and the Bible”).
Of course, we are “fixated” here on the “most innocent” of the sins of the warring army. It’s just that he is an indicator of the “fear of God” of the entire society.
And “the wicked people will be defeated, even if there are many of them, like leaves in a forest…. Russia lost the war with Japan, although its population was larger,” recalled Nikolaj Velimirović in the 1920s.
He personally observed the then the Russian elite in pre-revolutionary times, infected with the virus of liberalism and Westernism, already sympathetic to Ukrainophilism and, after the betrayal of God’s anointed, ready to distribute from the master’s shoulder left and right the lands that the Lord had allocated to His Katehon.
A century has passed. A century of suffering, anxiety and... epiphanies. Isn’t it time for Russians – from ordinary people to masterminds, from conscripts to soldiers’ mothers – to realize that Are they responsible for these lands, for the territory of the entire small herd?
Only then can their earthly Supreme declare war on world evil without fear that it will tear Russia apart from the inside, as happened in 1917. And how all Russia’s ill-wishers are counting on this - from the Western sponsors of Zelensky and Navalny to the Eastern ideologists of “free Siberia”, the “Turkic Caliphate” and other “sovereignties, whoever can take as much as they can.”
And then only the Lord will bless His inheritance for victory - power of Orthodox Christians.
