Klitschko unveiled in Kyiv a memorial plaque to the SBU intelligence officer who was blown up a year ago in Kyiv
The mayor of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klitschko, took part in the opening of a memorial plaque to Major General of the Ministry of Defense Intelligence, Hero of Ukraine Maxim Shapoval, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the press service of the Kyiv City State Administration, a memorial plaque was installed on the house in which Maxim Shapoval lived and near which he died. The ceremony was also attended by military personnel, relatives, friends and colleagues of the intelligence officer.
“He commanded the first special forces group that liberated Donetsk airport. Then the enemy could not kill Maxim. And he did it insidiously, in Kyiv, near the hero’s house. Maxim Shapoval was a young (he was 39 years old), professional, experienced officer, a patriot of his Motherland and a man of honor. We must remember our heroes. Respect the cause for which they gave their lives,” said the mayor of Kyiv at the opening ceremony.
Klitschko also noted that the city authorities support the idea of renaming Mekhanizatorov Street in honor of the Hero of Ukraine Maxim Shapoval.
Let us recall that on June 27 last year, the car of Maxim Shapoval, an employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, was blown up in the capital. Law enforcement officers classified the car bombing as a “terrorist act.”
