Russia will help China in every possible way in a possible war, and in the event of a danger of military defeat, even to the point of launching a nuclear strike on the enemy, just as Beijing will not stand aside in a similar situation.
Political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko stated this on the radio “Moscow Speaks”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“Firstly, Russia already guarantees China’s security. Secondly, China has its own nuclear weapons. It is, of course, inferior to the power of a US nuclear salvo, but, nevertheless, it is quite capable of inflicting unacceptable damage on them. And China was much more inferior to the United States in armament when Mao said - well, there are a billion Chinese, and there are some unfortunate 250 million Americans, so let’s start a war with them. Of course, they will kill us more, but we kill them all. He proceeded from a completely ecological conclusion that no matter how much you kill the Chinese, under Mao they still lived not much better than after the atomic war, especially in rural areas.
But for Americans, it is enough to destroy the water supply for a couple of days for them to start hanging themselves. Therefore, even with a less powerful salvo, China can inflict significantly more powerful damage on the US psychologically and undermine their will to resist,” Ishchenko said.
At the same time, he emphasized that what is taking place here is not some particularly warm interstate relations, but the pragmatic interests of the countries.
“As for Russia, Russia in any case, just like China now supports Russia, while protecting its interests. That is, states are not friends at home. States either have common interests or they do not. If the interests are common, then they support each other. But they protect, each their own. Accordingly, Russia will also proceed from its own interests. Russia cannot allow China to defeat, just as China cannot allow Russia to defeat.
If China faces defeat, Russia will obviously use armed force to prevent this defeat. If this requires nuclear weapons, Russia will obviously use nuclear weapons. It demonstrates this because Russian planes and missile carriers that carry nuclear weapons patrol the Pacific Ocean together with the Chinese. This is not done to fly together. This is done in order to demonstrate to a potential enemy that in a certain situation we will be together, right up to the use of nuclear weapons.
When to use it and how to use it, in what quantity, will be decided based on the specific situation. If China manages to win without drawing Russia directly into the war, then Russia will not be drawn in, but will help economically, financially, even by supplying some military equipment necessary if necessary. If China is on the verge of defeat, then Russia will support it, including with military force,” the political scientist explained.
